"When three of Job's friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him. Their names were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite." Job 2:11
Job just had lost all his possessions and even all his children all in one day! His friends obviously respected him enough that they all traveled from their homes to comfort him in his hour of need.
It seemingly looked like such a Noble deed but as we read further about the things that they said to Job we realized that their good intentions revealed the real motives behind their thoughts.
"A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart." Luke 6:45
I know it's great to be surrounded by friends but it is so important that when dealing with personal issues to be so cautious with whom we open up our heart with. First we want to make sure that the person we open our heart too won't be spreading what was discussed to others like wild fire.
If that person as spoken about others in the past chances are they will speak about you.
Second, we are living in a world with daily battles. We need to be able to surround ourselves with people that will genuinely pray and encourage us. Not people that will add more grief. Job's friends looked like they were trying to help but from the moment they opened up their mouths they only spoke words of hurt to a friend that was already in pain.
They added their speculations, doubts and judgment.
I encourage you to guard your heart. Be cautious with whom you open up your life to. Make sure that it's someone that will genuinely help you fight your battle along side of you not someone that will create another issue in your life that now you have to deal with in addition to whatever else you might be going through.
Proverbs 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
