Homeless but not bitter

As I was driving downtown with a friend this week we saw a lady that was homeless taking shelter at the doorway of a church.  We drove past her and God very quickly placed in our hearts to do something for her.  We stopped at a fast food restaurant and bought her food.  As we approached her we noticed she was very frail.  She had to be in her 40's but the roughness of the life on the street was clearly aging her.
We asked her if we could give her some food and she gratefully declined because she can only have liquids and no solid food, that's when we noticed the whole on her throat.  My mind quickly started to race to figure out what kind of illnesses she must have, I noticed how obvious it was that she only had one breast and what seemed like visible tumors on her arm.
Me and my friend who is also a kind hearted woman of God began to speak encouraging words to the seemingly hopeless woman.  However we didn't expect for her to encourage and teach us.  She began to say that despite what she is going through and having to live a life on the street she has been blessed by many people who have shown her kindness.
Wow, how can this woman who has nothing and is apparently very Sick speak of how she is grateful and how God has been with her?
I know people that have means that are so unattainable by this homeless woman and yet these people that have the comfort of a home, comfort of food and probably health and yet they always complain.  You hear them speak and you rarely hear of them being grateful.  What you do hear is the long list of complaints.
The homeless woman did not complain about the weather, nor not having food, nor having a bathroom or anything else.  What she did say is that God has been good to her despite how wrong she has lived her life.  I finally heard honesty from someone taking responsibility for their wrongs.  That doesn't seem to happen often unfortunately.

Time to put your life and my life in perspective, not our perspective but God's.  Time to change how we think, what we say and how we view things.  Time for a new life!
