This morning as i was heading to drop off my six year old at school i was asked by my eight year old why do we need to have traffic regulations. He was probably asking me this question because he knew that he would get to his own school late. He asked how quickly can you drive, I answered him "I can drive up to 110 miles per hour but the law says i can only go 40".
He sighed and said "I wish there were no laws". I quickly pointed out to him that if we didn't have laws to abide by when we are driving there would be a lot of accidents and because of this laws were created to make sure that everyone is safe.
I thought to myself as soon as i gave my son my explanation that the same goes for the moral laws that God wants us to abide by. God being so perfect and knowing all things knows that the only way He can justly bless us and accept us into His own kingdom is if we abide by His laws and accept the atonement for our sins which was Jesus.
Just like there would be great tragedies if we didn't have driving regulations the same goes for the tragedy our soul faces if we don't abide by God's moral regulations. Think about this the next time you talk yourself into justifying a wrong doing. At least that's my experience in my past when i knew is was breaking one of God's moral laws but i would talk myself full of excuses to justify that even thou the law says i should be driving at 40 miles per hour i could do 110 miles per hour. Why? Because when we sin we consider ourselves above the law of God. His blessings certainly apply to our lives but His laws shouldn't. Isn't this the truth behind how we think when we sin?
To follow God's rule book and live according to His Word provides a eternal everlasting peace, not to follow Him provides eternal torment.
