Goodness???

Food for thought, are you a good person?  What makes you a good person?

If you ask anyone in the street whether they believe they will go to heaven the first response you get the majority of the time is "I'm a good person".  Most people truly believe that just because they consider themselves a good person that one day they can escape the fiery pit of hell.

The best way to explain this is by speaking about one of Jesus own disciples, Judas.  When we hear that name we are filled with quick judgment towards him because we know he betrayed Jesus in exchange for financial gain.  However, have you ever thought that Judas might have shown some sort of level of spirituality?  If he didn't show some goodness or being of good intentions than the disciples and Jesus would never have picked him to be part of the important twelve.  Actually when Jesus said that one of them would betray Him the disciples didn't come into a quick conclusion that it would be Judas but instead they asked Jesus "Is it I Lord?".

Judas seemed so trustworthy that he was the one that looked after the finances on behalf of Jesus and the disciples.  So clearly nothing in his apparent conduct seemed to carry evil.
There is one thing we don't see in people and that is their heart (their true intentions).  We see their outwardly goodness but don't see the deception that their hearts may carry. Like Judas, outwardly he seemed to be well concerned with the poor but inwardly he was corrupt he didn't think of anyone but himself.

So I ask you again, do you consider yourself a good person?  Are you more concerned about helping others than yourself?  Do you live to abide by God's rules or do you make God abide by yours.  Do you pick and choose what part of the Bible you want to obey and exclude other parts?
The times we live in are so uncertain that there are no easier ways of asking these questions. The time is drawing near where soon we will need to give God an account of our actions therefore now is the time to reflect and get rid of the deception of our hearts so that God will not find any fault in it.
