I started off my very gloomy rainy day by wishing I was wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of coffee watching some sort of lifetime movie on TV. Unfortunately for me I had a doctor’s appointment with my mother and afterwards had to pick up my son at school to go to horse therapy (I know what you’re thinking what in the world is horse therapy? That in itself is just another story but let me continue with my gloomy day). I tried calling his therapist to see is the therapy was still on since it was down pouring outside. No one returned my call much to my dismay. So I head on to the farm.
I arrive at the farm and it’s raining cats and dogs (literally). The rain drops were so cold and heavy I thought I was going to start seeing cats and dogs falling from the sky. I waited in my usual waiting area which is in a gazebo outside and noticed that I can’t seem to spot anyone. In my mind I’m thinking they can’t possibly be here today its horrible weather. A few minutes after this thought I see my son’s friendly therapist, who is the sweetest caring person, heading in our direction with her rain boots, rain coat and of course smiling. She promptly looked at my son and said are you ready to build a bird feeder? He of course loves her so he held her hand and they walked away to the stables to build their bird feeder.
Here I am cold, it’s raining and I’m in a gazebo. I found a dry chair and took out a book to read. As I began to settle myself I heard the sound of the sheep that were in their barn and I thought that is the most soothing sound. Soon after I heard the donkey in his barn make those funny donkey sounds (you know eha, eha) I immediately started to laugh. I started to focus on what was surrounding me. I saw the rain hit the stone pebbles on the ground and saw the rain falling from the leaves in the nearby trees. I felt comfort! Even though I was cold I felt peace! I was surrounded by such an amazing environment. Has I waited I noticed some of the staff working around the farm. Let me tell you these people work!! In the summer with heat and humidity they are pushing wheelbarrows with food for the animals and cleaning their barns. They were doing the same thing today in the cold rain. Regardless of the weather they are working to maintain the farm and the animals (and I was selfish thinking about being in the comfort of my home). This farm called Wellspring Farm is a spring of life. These people dedicate their time daily to upkeep the farm in order for children and adults with disabilities to come and enjoy the animals and different activities. My son loves going there and I found out today that it is calming therapy for me as well. It’s amazing how much love is in that place. We could learn so much from Katie, Jim and Holly who work there. They love what they do. Really they do!
We so hear of few people that dedicate their lives in order to improve the lives of others. Looking at the hard working people of this farm is a true inspiration. They are compassionate! The way we should all be. To be selfless, and sacrifice in rain or sun for the improvement of someone else’s life.
God made us with a spirit of compassion and good will. Unfortunately for some of us we allow our mind to make decisions instead of being guided by our spirit. We were given kindness, hope, faith and love. Few gifts that we seem to see around us, this is why I was so inspired by what I saw today because I saw kindness, I saw hope, I saw faith and I saw love. Can someone say that they have experienced the same from us? That is yours and my question to answer. My hope is that you live a fruitful life. Increasing in these gifts daily.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 3 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
