As I think of the events that occurred this past week, it brought tears to my eyes. I think of all the devastation and loss that so many families are facing in Japan. The only thought going thru my mind is “what have we done to ourselves”. The reality of these events comes with some harsh truths. Many can blame God for such events but God never created us to live to experience such devastation. The bible is a reference with the choices we have in life and the consequences of our disobedience. We don’t have an unmerciful God but we have a loving God that would have done anything to make us pick the right choices that lead to a blessed life in Him. But just like I said it’s about choices. When God created us He created us with the ability to choose how to live our lives. He didn’t want to create robots that were program to do what He wanted them to do but He created children that pick and choose what direction they want their lives to go. Unfortunately most of us pick and choose the wrong direction.
There is so much anger, envy, malice and disregard for human life in this world. When you look at what is going on in this world you think how much can God endure? When you look what events are happening as I write this message, you think of the human trafficking, slavery, drug addictions, abuse and all sorts of horrific things that are too painful even to mention.
So what should be truly valuable is compassion, goodness, family, love and most importantly our faith. It’s our faith that will guarantee our eternal life. I have a much deeper appreciation for my family and the amazing friends I have because I know that is what is valuable to me. My treasure isn’t on what I possess financially but on what I possess in God. God has given me such blessings in my family and friends that they need to be treated like treasures despite our differences. I’ve felt such joy yesterday has I gathered at our home to celebrate my son’s fifth birthday surrounded by our family. It meant so much to me that my family was there and to see everyone laugh and just enjoy each other’s company was so comforting to me. This is how life was intended to be!
I pray that during such difficult occurrences in the world today that you take time to reflect on how God truly intended how you should live. If you haven’t take refuge in His arms it is never too late to do so. There you will find comfort and peace!
“ Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22
