If you find yourself drifting through life you really need to check the choices that you have made. Do you tend to follow the path of least resistance when having to make an important decision?
I recently had to make a choice that not only would impact myself but all those close to me. From an emotional perspective my choice was difficult it meant to be away from family for long periods of time and also to up rooting my children from the only home they have known from birth.
There was only one way to find out which path was the correct one to take and that was through prayer and asking for God's direction and peace once a decision was made. I learned from my past on my early walk with God that when I have to make a decision even if it contradicts my emotions I need to lean on God's will for my life and surrender my obedience to Him.
The Bible is full of examples of choices and obedience but one in particular stood out to me this year as I myself had to make my own decision, the story of Lot. Do you remember him? Perhaps you've heard of Sodom and Gomorrah. If so, Lot was living in that sinful city and even when God asked Him to leave telling Lot that he was going to destroy the city, Lot hesitated because by this time he was too comfortable in his new life surrounded by terrible sin.
Lot, Abraham's nephew, had to make a decision. When he was faced with decisions, he tended to put off deciding, then would later chose the easiest course of action. When given a choice his first reaction was to think of himself first. Lot did not develop a sense of purpose. He was so caught up in his present moment that he was incapable of seeing the consequences of his actions. His decisions were taking him in a very specific direction- destruction. God had to intervene in Lot's life in such a way that even when Lot was hesitant to obey God's command the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city that God was going to destroy. Why? Because God is merciful. (Genesis 19:16)
What is the direction of your life? I encourage you that if you have been surrounded by the wrong choices you've made today is a new day and it can be a new beginning. Choose obedience to do what you know is right before God, even if it's uncomfortable for you. You will be surprised at the blessings that will come to you from being obedient to His will.
