I often joke with my best friend about how I wait until everyone in my house is sleeping so I can gather my thoughts. I like to think and seek what I am feeling and think about life in general. It is during the night that I pray and I pour my heart to God. Not that you should only wait for night to pray but for me it is in the midst of the silence that I seek Him. It works for me!
"But each of you had better tremble and turn from your sins.
Silently search your heart as you lie in bed."
Psalm 4:4
We truly need to think sometimes of what is inside our hearts. God looks at our feelings and thoughts more than anything we do. When God was looking for a new king for Israel because the current one was literally growing mad out of his mind he sent His prophet to the house of a man with seven sons. The prophet was looking for a king amongst these seven sons and every time he was about to pick one because he "LOOKED" like a king, God would speak to him and say " Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance,
but the LORD looks on the heart."
1 Samuel 16:7.
God could care less how great you look on the outside or at the things that you do that others can see, He is more interested in your thoughts and feelings. He wants to know the real you.
God has been pounding in my heart for me to start focusing more on the reasons behind why I make certain decisions and do things. To analyze the true motives behind my feelings, thoughts which ultimately lead into my actions.
I want to know me as much as God does. This starts for me with the silence of the night when I cannot hear anything except to submerge myself in my thoughts.
Get to know the real you because God is much more interested in what you think more than you can imagine. His blessings for your life are dependent on your heart. The answers to your prayers are contingent to your thoughts, emotions and motives. Think about that next time you are blaming God for whatever miracle you haven't received. Look on to 1Kings 8:39 where it says that God answers prayers according to the motives of our hearts. Hopefully this might be a awakening for some necessary heart cleaning in your life because holding on to grudges, resentment, un forgiveness, anger, etc... will never help you claim the miracles you so desperately are seeking from God!
