In today's society we claim that we are free to do and say as we please. What most people don't talk about is how tormented their mind feels. How freedom isn't extended to the mind. How thoughts captivate our daily life with worry and how our nights are spent in a movie preview of our difficult daily lives. So are we really free?
We have the freedom to walk where we want to, to say what we want and most importantly to choose what we want for our lives but even with all these perks that freedom in this country has given us most still feel imprisonment.
The secret to complete and absolute freedom is "so if the Son liberates you, then you are really and unquestionably free" John 8:36. There can only be freedom through our acceptance of Christ into our lives. Through Him we can find liberty and peace of mind. Second Corinthians 3:17 affirms that God wants us to have liberty "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty".
You may ask, "What am i free from?" You are:
Free from the power of Sin!
Free from manipulation and control!
Free from fear of what others think of you!
Free from competition with others!
Free from selfishness!
Free to be an individual!
Free to be you!
Free! Free! Free!
So why waste time going around the block a million times looking for something that can set your mind free when all you have to do is give your life to Christ? The answer unfortunately is the unwillingness to change. The unwillingness to conform to the Word of God. To stop making excuses for the sins that you make saying "that everyone else does it so can I " and actually taking responsibility for your actions and strive to make the effort to live in godliness.
I admire a wonderful friend of mine that God has given me as an example to a godly life. She isn't perfect but what makes her unique besides her unusual personality is her fear for ever doing anything that could be displeasing to God. She is afraid to displease God. I was actually laughing with her this week, she had an incident where she felt a teacher wasn't fair with one of her children and she reacted in the same manner that i know i would of, she gave the teacher the look of displeasure. In this case the teacher was actually unfair but my friend's fear for God lead her to apologize to her because she knew she should of handled it differently. Her honesty was a testimony in itself. Why a testimony because it takes courage for us to admit that we were wrong even when our wrong was provoked by unfairness. What a different society we would live in if people were forgiving, honest and kind. We keep on hearing it over and over again that Jesus paid the price with His life so we can be free, yet many live a life in bondage. It is time to make a decision to break free from all the bondage's that are keeping you from living the life that God had intended for you. This means that you can accept to live life in accordance with God's will for your life and this might require some initial sacrifices. You might have to make life changing decisions that will make you feel the pressure of those around you that believe we should just do what we want without being bond by Biblical commandments. God only gave us 10 commandments because He knew that we would be too stubborn and selfish to obey more. Yet we break all those commandments and still expect to live a joyful free life. Freedom is found in the obedience to God to bring our will in agreement with God's will. I pray that God will touch your heart for you to press past what everyone else says in the world and find true freedom and joy.
