I'm just too busy!

Busy, busy, busy… Isn’t that what Martha was when she was so busy cooking and cleaning while Jesus just stood there looking at her.  So why did she get so frustrated with her sister?  After all it really didn’t seem fair to have such an amazing guest at their home and her sister wasn’t even contributing to serve this important person.   But Mary didn’t worry about her chores she just stood there at the feet of Jesus listening to Him and taking into her very soul every word that came out of His mouth.
But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”Luke 10:40 (He replied by telling her that her sister choose what was wise).
We can read this verse and even pass judgment on Martha how she should have taken advantage of the opportunity of Jesus being there and grasp every word that came out of His mouth.  However, the reality is we become like Martha.  We are always too busy to listen to Him!
We even overload our children by enrolling them in every extracurricular activity imaginable that they can partake in.  Don’t get me wrong it is important for children to be enrolled in sports but they also need down time.  They need time to be children.  After all, they have time to be busy when they become adults later in the future.  My most precious memories of my childhood are from the times that I was able to just enjoy playing outside whether skipping, bike riding or any other type of creative play.
Children need time to spend with their biggest role models, their parents!  If you are too busy working and spending every spare time you have running around from one extracurricular activity to another how are your children going to learn from you?  Are we teaching our children to be too busy for God?  We can become so involved with what we have to do that God becomes last in our to do list.  The Bible says seek the kingdom of God first and all else shall be added unto you.  So how can we demand from God His blessings if we don’t even take time to thank Him and seek His presence.
How great it must have been in the old days when going to church every Sunday was a must! I’m not talking about being religious I’m talking about being thankful!    Some people even say that they don’t need to go to church to show God how thankful they are, but come on! That is just an excuse for laziness.  Others say that they don’t want to be like hypocrites by going to church like many and doing the opposite of what they are learning in church.  How true this is, yes there are many that are hypocrites but I’m not speaking of others, I’m speaking of you.  After all churches were designed to welcome those who are suffering and living in sin and want freedom from all of it, and they were also designed for fellowship.  If you don’t like your church than find another one, or you might consider that you might be the problem not others.  Churches aren’t perfect because they are made up of imperfect people.  Make a difference in your church by showing a good example that others can even learn from.  Don’t be a fool by only contributing to God when you feel good in your church, you need to contribute especially when you don’t feel good because I assure you that God will bring forth a blessing out of your sacrifice.
Speaking about doing too much, sometimes we give our children to much! Children need to learn how to be thankful for what they have by sharing what they have with others that are less fortunate.  We can’t give all that our children want without teaching them the value of earning.  Not only earning but
especially giving.  I’ve been teaching my children this since they were very little.  Every few times a year they get to fill bags with toys and clothing to donate and they come with me to drop these items in the donations boxes.  We complain about how this world is getting troublesome but we must make a difference for our children.  The only way we can make a difference is to teach them to be thankful, to teach them the value of respect in a relationship (don’t argue in front of your children with your spouse), to give to those that are less fortunate and most importantly to love God above all else.  This nation  was doing great when God was above all else ever since we started to take God out of the picture a curse has come upon this country.  We went from being prosperous and an example to be in debt and an example of all types of calamity.
This might all seem harsh but I say it with much love as a wakeup call so you can have the life that God intended for you to have with wholesome love and joy. Start planting today the seeds of faithfulness to God so you can reap a rich harvest later.
Be blessed!
