Never have I felt such a deep sense of responsibility like the one that I felt when I became a mother. I had a plan all sorted in my mind from the first day that I found out that I was carrying our first son, Christian. I always believed that children are led by example and thought that as long as I gave them a godly example that they would learn and always make the correct choices.
Well I have found out that there is more to it than just preaching and showing our children how to make godly choices. We have the responsibility to correct them, teach them, love them, pray for them and bless them. We have the responsibility of pouring God’s blessing upon their little lives. Like the word says in Mark 10:16 “And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.”
Jesus didn’t just hug them He also blessed them. The same authority that God has granted us as parents to bless our children is the same as the one that Jesus used to bless those children. We truly live in difficult times and our most blessed possession is the children that God has given us. Therefore, we need to not only invest time in them but it is important to pray for them and bless them daily. They might not always make the correct choices but it is imperative to pray and fast for them. How many of us would start fasting and praying with all our might if we knew that tomorrow something horrible would come to destroy our children? Why wait for something bad to happen to do this, why not do it before? They are worth every sacrifice to guarantee that God’s blessing and protection will continue upon their lives. Let us not be lazy in this department. I believe every sacrifice we make for them will be greatly rewarded.
Everything they see outside our home contradicts what we teach them at home and they will at times have the curiosity to sway to do what was taught not for them to do but that is when our prayers and fasting are important since we can’t be around them every second of the day. We have to teach them the fear of God and pray that the fear of God will accompany them every day of their lives.
I pray that your children as well as mine will continue under God’s protection and that they may always have the grace and godly character to stand up for what is right without getting easily swayed to do what is wrong.
