As i watched a clip from one of my favorite movies "The Nativity Story", i realized how the life of Jesus before He was even born into this world was so full of persecution. You would think that the Son of God would of been welcomed with open arms by the people He came to save, unfortunately that wasn't the greeting that He received. While Mary was pregnant she had to flee her home and everything that was familiar to her because of the plot that was going to kill tons of children. Can you imagine a king so afraid to loose his throne at the threat of the Son of God coming into the world that he killed every child under the age of three. I'm not talking about a few children but possibly hundreds if not thousands of innocent children.
The life of Christ started with persecution and it ended with persecution.
The same persecution Christ suffered over two thousand years ago is the same persecution that all those who believe in Him share today. Plots of destruction were made to kill Him by those very same people that watched Him grow up in Nazareth. The same way that sometimes in order to do what is Godly right we suffer the wrath of those who are closer to us unfortunately even those that are supposed to share the same faith we have.
The Israelites were expecting a king, a Savior to come in His glory to free them from the affliction of the Romans but what they found instead was a simple man that didn't have the appearance of a king but was a threat to them because Jesus would remind them of the sins that they were committing and unwilling to turn away from.
Many people today see the devastation that surrounds us across the globe and they too ask for a Savior, someone that will come to save them from so much destruction and suffering. But are the really ready for that Savior? Everyone is looking for a quick and rapid solution to their problems but are they truly willing to turn away from their sins and change their life style?
A Savior will certainly come but not to bring a solution but to bring destruction to the sins that have existed in this earth from the beginning of time.
So often i have heard people say that they love God and believe in God but don't want to commit to living a godly life because they would feel that they would miss out on doing what they want and please. God doesn't save someone who is half committed to Him. Living a half committed life will never bring satisfaction, you either commit to live in a godly manner or live to do what the world tells you to do. Jesus wasn't looking for someone to half believe in Him. He really used harsh words that would pierce someone's heart because of the truth that they contained. The theory that one day you will be facing God and that He will overlook your sins and unwillingness to turn from your sins just because you feel that you are a good person is extremely unrealistic. Your unwillingness will be what will bring torment to your eternal life.
Don't be like the Israelites that were expecting a great Savior to come and fix their problems but instead received a Savior that rebuked them for their unwillingness to do what was godly right. Now more than ever is time for change. Especially since you might not have that opportunity later. Be blessed!
