Unwelcomed by those who know you best!

Why is it doing what is right is never comfortable?  Let us face it I would be a lot happier hiding in my little corner not being bothered or bothering with anyone else.  People will only seem to like you if you are either in agreement with their life style or agree with everything they do and say.  At least that was how it went for Jesus when He decided to go to His hometown.  The Bible says that “and all spoke well of Him and marveled at the words of grace that came forth from His mouth…” Luke 4:22.
So while He was telling them what they wanted to hear the people of His hometown were welcoming and were amazed with everything that until this point came out of His mouth, however there was a drastic change that was about to take place. “all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage.  And rising up, they pushed and drove Him out of the town, and they led Him to the upper part of the hill on which their town was built, that they might hurl Him headlong down” Luke 4:28-29.
When Jesus finally started to correct them, in other words when He started to point out their sins they broke down in rage.  A rage big enough that drove theses people to bring Jesus to the top of the hill to throw Him off the cliff to kill Him.
What I’m trying to make you understand is that doing what is right is never easy and at times it might seem that everyone including those that know you best will rise up against you with all sorts of calamity.  Nevertheless is important to do what you know is right regardless of who will stop speaking to you or who will spread lies about you.  I can tell you this from very personal experiences.  I have been hurt by the lies and hurting comments that have been spread about me mostly because of standing up for what I know is right and true.  I haven’t bothered in the past to retaliate but instead have left my defense in God’s good hands.  I always thought that I would find peace when God would bring those that have hurt me to justice but what I have found is pity for them.  When I see someone that has hurt me unjustly go thru a difficult time I feel their pain.
I have come to understanding that people have been hurt so much in their past life that when you show them kindness they don’t even know how to accept it.  They always think that you have a hidden agenda behind the kindness that you are showing.  If people would only understand that what God has to give is free!  If people would understand that you can be kind and wish them goodness without having any sort of expectation for any sort of recompense.  It is always good to remember if Jesus wasn’t welcomed by those that saw Him grow up because of not being in agreement with their lifestyle than in the same way we won’t find favor with those who only want to hear what is pleasing to them.  May God give you and me the strength to continue to serve God in a way that is pleasing to Him.  May God comfort our hearts from all the hurtful things that have been said about us knowing that we need to keep our eyes focused on the greater prize that far exceeds anything that this world will ever have to offer.  Be blessed!
